Avatar State

I have been religiously watching the animated show called Avatar the Last Airbender every summer since its inception. This is my fourth summer so this is my fifth time watching it. What's so great about it is that I don't get tired of it. I learn new things every time I watch it. Sometimes, I recognize things this year that are glossed over when I watched it last time. I have come to very much appreciate the wisdom that the writers wrote in the script. A big part of the character development is how characters take wisdom and use it. Another is when the characters give wisdom in a certain situation which gives you a hint to understand where they came from and what they went through. I believe the writers did an amazing job at developing all the characters that we care about whether they were big or small.

In the second to last episode of the second season, Aang learns how to control his Avatar state from the guru Patik. The guru explains that to control his Avatar state, Aang has to make all his seven chakras flow freely. What blocks the flow of chakra is the intense emotional gunk from experiencing pain in life. The key is to let go: surrender all the emotional gunk out of your mind and body.

The seven chakras are:

1. Earth - deals with survival, blocked by fear, located in base of spine
2. Water - deals with pleasure, blocked by guilt, located in sacrum
3. Fire - deals with willpower, blocked by shame, located in stomach
4. Air - deals with love, blocked by grief, located in heart
5. Sound - deals with truth, blocked by lies, located in throat
6. Light - deals with insight, blocked by illusions, located in forehead
7. Thought - deals with pure cosmic energy, blocked by earthly attachments, located in crown of the head

To open up the chakras, Aang has to do this in order from Earth to Thought.

Watching this episode has brought me into deep thinking. I thought I should do the same thing and share them on my blog. After learning Jesus' teachings and about myself for the past year, I connected it with this episode very deeply when I saw it last night. It helped when Aang showed his past and emotions in every chakra.
